ACCRE is supported by a combination of faculty funds, grant dollars, and institutional support.Â
Reduced rates for research groups are made possible through financial support (subsidies) provided by VU and VUMC. These subsidies help lower the cost of services so that faculty members and their research teams pay less.Â
ACCRE's pricing model is designed to recover only the direct costs of delivering reliable, secure, and compliant research computing infrastructure. Rates reflect the actual costs of hardware, networking, software licensing, technical support, data center operations, security, and compliance. For VU and VUMC researchers, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Innovation further subsidizes these costs by funding all data center power and cooling expenses, reducing the fees charged to users.

Why Purchase vs. Rent (Service Use fee)?
If you are new to ACCRE, we recommend starting out with the CPU Rent Fee. ACCRE membership requires a minimum 2-core CPU rent per year. You can scale up or scale down the number of cores rented at any given time by opening a after you submit your initial fairshare service agreement. For groups with long standing projects, it is worth considering an up-front 5 year 128-core, 192-core, or 256-core Reserved Instance
to the cluster and enrolling in the Support Fee per reservation (in 128-core capacity increments).
For more information on how to request paid services through the ACCRE core, please visit ACCRE Billing: Getting Started in iLab.
ACCRE uses a fairshare for group priority on the cluster. Fairshare refers ACCRE’s computational unit where 1 fairshare equals 1 CPU core on the cluster. The ACCRE cluster has approximately 12,000 cores. When groups are ready to move to a paid account, they have two options:
- Purchase a Reserved Instance, the group will receive a fairshare for the total number of CPU cores or GPUs on the reservation. Ongoing support fees apply for five years and must be reassessed at the end of the reservation.
- Rent cores out of the total pool of CPU cores on the cluster. The group will receive a fairshare for the total number of CPU cores rented.
